Display Technology | Different between IPS, AMOLED & Retina | TechBuf
Display technology improves so much that it is difficult for ordinary people to remember the necessary things of this technology. Whenever we think of choosing a new smartphone, our entire focus is on the phone’s RAM, processor, camera and battery life. But we usually forget about the one important thing that the display. Where the display is a device that we always touch and spend most of the time on it. You may also like what is machine learning
There are many types of display technology. The question often comes in mind, what is the IPS display and AMOLED or Retina display? What is the difference between them? Which screen will fit perfectly for my phone? Etc. This post is a simple solution for all these questions. Read the post carefully; you will know which display technology fits for you.
Details about display technology
Friends, To choose the display of a smartphone we have to focus on two things. One is the screen size, which you can choose if you like (you can buy a small screen phone or big if you want). The second important thing is the PPI (pixels per inch). I am not discussing PPI in this post, but soon I will post an article about this issue. In this post, I will only discuss different types of display technology. It may not be possible to give long descriptions of each technology, but if I write a post on each display technology, I think that the text will not be less. But reading this post, you must surely say that which screen is good or bad. What are the facilities or problem?
LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) display technology
Let’s start with the LCD. We have been using this technology for a long time. We have been using LCD monitors since when goodbye the thick CRT monitors on the computer. You know the full name of the LCD, the Liquid Crystal Display. Now if I talk about LCD technology on the smartphone screen, which needs to say it is not available directly on mobile phones as LCD. In this technology need much change, such as FT LCD, IPS LCD, SIPs LCD, Super LCD, etc.
Talk about LCD
- The first name comes from the Twisted Nematic panel. This panel found in the computer monitor. Apart from this many panoramic phones are available in many cheap Android phones. Speaking of the cheap Android phone, phones that were available on the market 3-4 years ago. This technology is unemployed. It is much thicker in size and consumes too much power. Its video angle is not good at all. That means you can see everything in the form of ghosts just by holding the phone in slightly different angle. So I would say that be careful about this display. If you see this technology today, it would be better to ignore it.
- Second, comes the talk about Thin Film Transistor LCD. A little modernity was in this technology; Its modernity is not so noticeable. The contrast is not good. Moreover, its quality of color is not an accurate, you might think roughly. And with so many lumps, it gets a lot of loss.
LCD technology (In Plane Switching)
Now let’s talk about the best technology for the LCD technology (In Plane Switching). The main reason behind this technology makes the best is that it has taken special care of 3 issues.
- Firstly the color production has been specially made. The color shown on an IPS LCD is real. If you see a red flower on the screen, the color of the flower will be the same as the one that looks like the IPS LCD. A lot of black colors may look a bit darker, but other colors are accurate and alive.
- Secondly, its viewing angle has spread a lot. You can not see at exactly 180 degrees, but you can see 176 or 178 degrees.
- Thirdly, this display has been made much slim, and it can work very poorly.
Next, comes the Super LCD talk about it. Mildly modernized compared to TFT LCD. This technology was not as modern as the IPS. Super LCD use in HTC’s phones. This technology is fair but not as good as the IPS.
Amoled (ACTIVE MATRIX ORGANIC) display technology
Let’s be familiar with the AMOLED technology. Show the color in LCD the backlight is using for the entire screen. The light layer in the display became brighter for a color backlight. But there is no backlight on AMOLED display. Each pixel has a separate living light. Suppose you are watching a small marble picture on the screen. Now in the LCD, it needs to be kept brightness behind the back of the picture showing the small marble (which occupies a small space of the screen). But the Amolode display will lights where the image will remain, and the rest of the screen is black.
AMOLED Display bright a particular place it uses much less electricity. And another advantage is that it does not need to light a separate pixel for black color so it can give true color to the black color. Also, AMOLED technology has lots of contrast.
Differences in IPS LCD and AMOLED Display Technology
Display | IPS LCD display |
Amoled display
|
---|---|---|
In the sunlight | There is a whole lighter behind it, so it looks more bright in the sun’s light. | Due to the specific pixel burnings, it is less bright than the IPS LCD in sunlight. |
Loss of power | Power loss is high. | Reduces power loss. |
The price | In comparison, its price is very cheap. | In comparison, its price is much higher. |
Brightness | Less is brighter. | It is brighter. |
Thickness | It is too thick. | It’s too much chin. |
Color | Provides the right color. | Does not give the right color, but it produces attractive colors for the eyes. |
There was so much difference between the advantages and disadvantages of these two display technologies. The dispute over color in the past was almost finished. Now virtually every smartphone has its color customization options. You can optionally fix the display’s color light. If your screen is yellow, then you can optionally blue it, etc. IPS LCD and AMOLED These two display technologies are the best in their place. You can be satisfied with any one of these two technologies.
Retina Display Technology
Now talk about a special technology called Retina Display. Computing device maker Apple gives this name. But the Retina Display did not use any special technology. The name was just for marketing. Apple gives the name of this display, so every person has come to the point of expression. People say that Apple has invented a new display technology called Retina Display, And it’s the greatest display of all time.
Retina display was one type of IPS LCD; the pixel density was much higher. When Apple’s iPhone 4s comes with its first Retina display, its pixel density was 300, and current iPhone 7 also have 300 pixels density. But now Samsung’s phone have 500+ pixels density. Nowadays, almost every good smartphone has 300+ pixels density. That means Retina display also have on your phone. Not only iPhone or Apple’s product have Retina display. It is nothing more than Apple’s marketing. When Apple’s first make Retina display the pixel density of this display has More than most, but nowadays retina display is simple.
The last word
I hope you like this post. Now you can quickly determine whether your IPS needs or AMOLED. You can choose between any of them because these two technologies can give you the best performance. According to my opinion try to stay away from the TFT display. Because this technology is inefficient, I tried to explain about this in this post. If there are any problems or ideas, please let me know. Do not forget to share this post.
